What is MORE THAN WORDS®?
More Than Words is a program that provides parents of children with autism or children who may benefit from social communication support with practical strategies to support their child’s communication. This unique program was developed by experienced speech-language pathologists at The Hanen Centre. More Than Words is offered to parents around the world by Hanen Certified Speech-Language Pathologists who have received specialised training from The Hanen Centre.
What parents learn in the MORE THAN WORDS ® Program
Parents are the most important people in their child’s life, and your child’s best teacher. As a parent, one of the greatest gifts you can give your child is the support to communicate and find more joy in their interactions with others. In the More Than Words Program, you learn practical and powerful strategies to support your child’s communication and interaction during fun everyday routines and activities.
You will learn:
-How your child communicate right now and the next steps to take
-How to identify and include your child’s sensory preferences in fun engaging activities
-How child led play leads to fun back-and-forth interactions
-How to turn everyday activities into opportunities to support your child’s communication
-How to help your child understand what you say
-How to help develop your child’s communication skills while having fun together

Schedule of activities
•A FREE pre-program session with you and your child
•Plus, a FREE orientation session for parents and a friend/partner/support person
•A pre-program consultation with you and your child and the Hanen Certified Speech Pathologist
•A series of parent-only group sessions (5-8 per group) led by the Speech Pathologist, to learn about social communication development and how to use the strategies with your child
•2-3 individual sessions with you, your child and the Speech Pathologist that includes video recording of you and your child interacting together
